Excellent reel for the money. I highly recommend cleaning them out especially paying more attention to the batirunner knob area as it collects a lot of grime and grit. It is a little quiet when a fish takes but I fixed that with a lighter oil so the reel can be more easily heard when the bait runner is engaged. I caught over 50 fish from 10lb to 20lb in three weeks on this thing and I just bought a third 4500. I even had a jetski doing at least 60mph peel off half the line on my reel and that reel hasn't skipped a beat. The 4500 goes well with a 10ft rod and the 5000 feels weird on a 12ft rod so the 5k would be better on a 11ft but would still work on a 10ft if you need it too. Excellent reel for $90!

So as we all know, most Daiwa, shimano, okuma, etc are no longer made in Japan but instead China or Malaysia.

This 4500 reel is made in China. However I made say I was pleasantly surprised. It is silky smooth in operation. The fit and finish of the components are excellent. The drag is exactly what you would expect from a Japanese company reel. Overall, I am impressed with this BR and can’t wait to test it on some big carp.

Excellent. These are not sold with spare spools. However the spools from the previous model, Emcast BR4500A, fit the Black Widow 4500 models perfectly. (In the UK the Emcast BR4500A spools can still be found for 12 pounds plus shipping.)

Bought two of the 4500 reels to pair with my Daiwa Black Widow G50 10’ 3lb rods. Reels work great with setup. Quality on a good budget.

What can I say. Strong, smooth and reliable and affordable. Typical Daiwa quality and it doesn't disappoint.
